New York City
I remember wanting to move to New York City. So I had created a web site, a series of celebrity fan sites back in the late 90s. And they got recognized by MTV VH, one few other outlets. And they actually started to get advertising offers from media companies in New York City. So I started traveling to New York to visit those people. And I started getting invited to like little press parties, and little showcases I’ve met people like Isaac Hayes singing group Cleopatra, whitecliff, Sean, Brandy Ray J. Got to do a lot of interviews with different artists mostly be be artists or rising talent or talent where they have to have an open bar for you to come. But either way, I really got excited about that.
So at my job at the time in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, it was a store called Media Play. They sold CDs and music movies, video games. Books, all that. I started getting people together at the store and said, Why don’t we just all move to New York City and just do this business? So we meet at my home each night, work on stuff, get things started, you know, watch some TV, get an idea of what we wanted to do. I took one guy with me to a party where we met Isaac Hayes. I went apartment hunting, everything was solid. And then by the time it was ready to move, everyone had dropped out. And it was just me.
And I felt alone. But I felt determined. I felt that that was what I wanted to do. So I’m moving day. People from the church that I was attending. They came you know, a couple of the people came packed me up drove the U haul to New York City. But it was another instance where there was a group of people we had a dream we had a focus. And then when it came down to it, little orphan me taken on the Big Apple and I was told that people thought it would be back in six months.
Six of the best years of my life. I had a chance to do all the music things I wanted to do. I had a chance to interview my favorite artist r&b singer Monica. I spent Valentine’s Day with r&b singer Brandy got to bring her bear and chocolates. Her mom had gotten us into I got me into a little tribute thing with Darius Rucker, Mark McGrath and some others. It was a tribute to Rod Stewart. She had been trying to call me all day my roommate had been tying up the phone this was before cell phones. So it’s trying to get ahold of me and says get to the SIP Brioni club now and I did and I picked up a baron hot chocolate in Baron candy chocolates in Grand Central Station and Brian was brand new and said Happy Valentine’s Day. So that was that was exciting.
But yeah, I got to do that I worked at Fortune 100 company by day at night I went to these little promotional parties and interviewed artists and doesn’t interview hours during the day. From being able to just say I’m gonna be late at work and going to a concert at CBS Morning Show out on 57th You know, because I could do things like that, right? Yeah, but I remember people thought Yeah, he’ll be back in six months. Six, six of the most amazing years of my life. But I was always on my own. I thought it would be a team of people. I thought we will make this successful. But moving they came and was just orphan me
