Sonja Norwood

All right. So today I want to what I think was a church of Christ. Though they didn’t say it was openly as I’ve been visiting churches. I was introduced to this particular group of churches by Sonja Norwood back I think in 1999 That’s 9899 90,000 Somewhere around there.

Tonight one of her posts popped up on my feed, so I ended up going to her website saw how to contact her I really have dialogue with her and decades, two decades, probably fairly close to that. And it was interesting because she didn’t remember me. I used a different email, different handle, explained who I was and told her I was working on a book.

And I said, there’s nothing bad in the book about her. I wasn’t out to use her name to sell books. In fact, I’d be surprised if even one person bought the book. I want to at least have a copy to hand to my daughter in my dying days, so to speak, but definitely not out to use her to sell books or anything like that. It’s very small story or section in there of how I got launched into New York City and now she helped.

But it was interesting because I had to reintroduce myself as the present day version of myself, the single legal adoptive parent of an African American daughter that live in Nashville, that kind of thing. And, you know, we’re going back and forth and she was starting to remember a little bit there. Remember, I remembered everything was under the handle Carrie cat on AOL. So I reminded her of that and it clicked.

So something I think that was amazing, to me at least is being able to reintroduce myself in that way. As opposed to just something from the past creeping up, I got to have a few emails. You know, we’re gonna introduce who I am today. And then do some reminders that might have jogged your memory or memory was jogged.

I was glad that she got to know of her few emails. The me of today, that it wasn’t just someone from the past reaching out and everything from the past floods back, but that she got to know me as I am in 2023 in the present day,
