Grace Pointe Church

Grace Pointe Church, non-denomnational church in Nashville
2020 Lindell Ave,
Nashville, TN 37204

Sundays 9am and 11am

Grace Pointe Church bills itself as a progressive church however upon visiting, I saw nothing but love and acceptance for different points of view on a day when the expectation can be rather singular. The church is located near the old Simply Mac / MacAuthority off of Wedwood. Grace is the theme from beginning to end.

The church is set up with a good number of chairs plus a children’s area to the side. Information about the church scrolled on the front screen as people talked and found their seats. A choir found it’s way to the front as the service opened at this non-denomnational church in Nashville.

The worship set had a leader and a small but effective choir. They sang a few songs that were Christmas themed. It was a short but heart felt set.

After worship there was an announcement / giving segment. The QR code appeared on the screen and another song followed along with an explanation of the Advent candle which was displayed at the front. The message soon followed.

The message was interesting. The speaker talked about how it’s possible not to feel the joy of Christmas as the rest of the organized church does and that it was okay – something that resonated me with as I’m nearly 50 and each Christmas has been less than the last. There was a good amount of humor including a stamp of Mary and Joseph on the keyboard and vocals, something I’d never seen at any non-denomnational church in Nashville.

As they were not having an evening service, a candle light followed. The lights went down as the song Oh Holy Night was sung. The rebel in me could only hear Eric Cartman from South Park trying to muddle his way through the words. But in this room, it seemed like that would be okay as there was no expectation on feelings or expressions.

Grace Pointe Church bills itself as “Progressive” but I would argue on this visit it felt more like “Compassionate” – compassionate towards others who may not be handling Christmas well but still believes in Jesus. You won’t find yourself feeling out of place at Grace Pointe.
