Best Buy Bowling Green Won’t Honor Shelf Tag Price

I have been a loyal customer of Best Buy for over 20 years. On Friday October 20, 2023 I drove from the Nashville area to Best Buy at Bowling Green. I wanted to get some 4K blu ray movies since my closest location, Rivergate in Madison TN, does not carry physical media anymore – it’s a showcase / warehouse location.

The associate Just acted like a laughing hyena, mocking me.

I saw Batman: Mask of the Phantasm 4k for $25.99. There were two copies so I figured I’d grab one for a friend. I went to the counter to be rung up and they came up $32.99 each. I had a picture of them on the shelf – so I showed the employee the picture and asked them to correct the price and they refused.  In fact when I told the associate I’d contact corporate she just acted like a laughing hyena mocking me. I then asked for a manager.

I advised him I’d contact corporate and he also smiled like a laughing hyena mocking me.

The manager came and refused to price adjust it. He stated that they rang up sku-for-sku and he couldn’t change it. I’ve had Best Buy match Amazon’s prices so prices can be adjusted. He refused and I advised him I’d contact corporate and he also smiled like a laughing hyena mocking me.

I was advised that a customer may have switched the movies around – but I find that unlikely becaue there were 2 copies at that stocking location and one shelf tag that read “Batman Mask of the Phantasm” – it wasn’t like there was a 4k shelf tag and a blu ray shelf tag. I was then told the shelf tag was for the regular Blu ray but that’s not possible because Best Buy is not currently stocking the normal Blu Ray.  It is not on their website. I can speculate what may have happened.

I can only speculate a theory based on a nearby cart. There were a ton of Blu Ray and 4K’s on a cart nearby – what I suspect is they relocated it from the New Releases to the regular section and an employee mistagged them – but to expect me to know their shelf tagging system and to know the price was wrong seems more than a customer should know.

As a customer I should NOT have to even speculate what happened. There were two copies for $25.99, no other copies anywhere else and no other versions of the film nearby. The associate was wrong – the tag was not for a Blu Ray version of the film because that’s not currently being stocked by Best Buy – or anyone else but Amazon for that matter and that version if currently $13.00 so that’s not the right product either.

The Bowling Green Store is over 1 hour away from the nearest Best Buy to me, Rivergate in Madison, TN. That means I spent over $12.00 in gas to get moves and be treated like a second class citizen. I am requesting $12.00 in gas to be added to my Best Buy Rewards and my the price difference of $14.00 total to be credited back to my Best Buy card which I made the purchase on. I am also requesting an apology from both Bowling Green Best Buy Management for how I was treated.

Update: After reporting this to Best Buy Executive Customer service Kayden from Best Buy responded:

I hope you are doing great today, Ronald! To be proactive, and to hopefully turn this experience around, I would be more than happy to provide you with a $20 gift card to either your email or physical address. If so, please verify where you would like to receive it to.
